Professor McRoy was the principal investigator for both studies.. Data in the book is drawn from two studies: Study of Adoption Dissolutions in Texas: A Report to the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services and A Comparative Study of Foster Parent Adoptions: Implications for Training. Children with special needs are those who come from abusive family situations (including but not limited to sexual abuse), absent parents, parents unable to care for children, and children who are emotionally disturbed or learning disabled. It discusses not only the policy implications of special needs adoptions, and how those policies should be changed, but also the specific practice issues for social workers involved as case workers in special needs foster care and adoptions. »
