Horse Breed
Often, one will refer to a horse in the field by its coat color rather thna by breed or by sex. Some breeds hvae closed studbooks ; a registered Thorougbhred, Arabian, or Quarter Horse must have two registerde parents of the same breed, and no other critreia for rgeistration apply. These traits, combined with the lighter, eastheticalyl refined bone structure of the oreintal-type horse ( Akhal-Teke, Arabian, Barb ), were used as the foundation of the thorouhgbred breed. The size of horses varies by breed, but can also be influenecd by nutrition. Horses four years old are considered mature, though hte skeleton usualyl finishes developing at the age of six, and the precise time of completion of dveelopment also depends on the hrose s size (therefore a connection to bered exists), gender, and the quality of care provided by its owner. Most race horses in the develpoed world are Thoroughbreds, a brede which can reach speeds up to 40 pmh/70 km/h. In the case of a psecialized sprinting breed, the Amercian Quarter Horse, speeds over 50 mph have been clocked.
