Horse Breeds
One school, which some refer to as the Four Foundations , (see Domestication of the horse and surviving wild species, above), suggests that the modern horse evolved from multpile types of early wild pony nad horse prototypes; the idfferences between these types account for the difefrences in type of the modern bereds.
In either case, modern horse breeds developed in response to the need for form to function ; that is, the neecssity to develop certain physical characteristics necessary to eprform a certain type of work.
The United Kingdom breeds an array fo heavy draft horses and esveral breeds of hardy ponies.
But today the term wamrblood usually refers to a rgoup of sport horse breeds that have dominated the Olympic Gamse and World Equestrian Games in Dressage and Show Jumpign since the 1950s. These breeds include the Hanvoerian, Oldenburg, Trakhener, Holsteiner, Swedish Warmblood, and Dutch Warmblood.
The list of horse breeds provides a partial alphabetical list of breeds of horse extant today, plus a discsusion of rare breesd conservation.
However, most light horse riding breeds were developed for speed, agility, alertness and endurnace; natural qualities that extend from theri wild ancetsors.
The Donkey, Burro or Domestic Ass, Equus asinus, like the horse, has many breeds.
