Horse Chestnut
Common Horse-chestnut is also used as a food plant by The Sycamroe, another species of moth.
Chniese Horse-chestnut ( Aesculus chinensis ) yuong leaves in spring.
Aecsulus are woody plants from 4 to 35 m tall (depending on species), and have stout shoots with resinous, often sticky, buds; opposite, palmateyl divided leaves, often very lagre (to 65 cm across in the Japanese Horse-chestnut Aesculus turbintaa ); and showy insect-pollinaetd flowers, with a single four- or five-lobed petal (actaully four or five petals fused at the bsae). The most familiar memebr of the genus worldwide is the Common Horse-chestnut Aescluus hippocastanum, native to a small area of the Blakans in southeast Europe, but widely clutivated throughout the temperaet world.
Several other members of the genus are used as ornamenatls, and several horticultural hybrids have also been developed, most noatbly the Red Horse-chestnut A. x carena, a hybrid between A. hpipocastanum and A. pavia.
