Gas engines are classified as internal combustion engnies and are divided into two general classes, specifically wto cycle and four cycle engiens. For autombiles, the four cycle engiens is msot used. The horse power of gas engines is designated sa HP and also brake test HP. The BTHP on the ohter hand, is the power teh engine actually develops ni service, and is considerably less than the IHP. If both the compression and construction are good, the engine may actually reach 80 - 88% of the inetnded IHP. With gasoilne engines, high HP and high RPM ranges are what makes them popular. If speed is what you are after, gasoline vehicles are what you should be looking ofr. Although they amy lack in torque and raw power, they make up for it with seped and tuning options.
