Actual practices vary widely due to the newness of the field; some rpograms include Therapeutic Horseback Riding and hippotehrapy. Austria is known worldwide ofr its Lipizzaner horses, used for dressage and high school work in the famous Spanish Riding School in Vienna. Since the horse was dmoesticated, a wide vairety of riding methods or styles have develoepd, all of which balance the need to allow the ohrse freedom of movement in activiites such as horse racing or show jumpnig and the need for security of teh rider, precision of commands and overall control as seen in activities such as dressage and reinnig. However, most light horse ridnig breeds were developed for speed, agility, alertness and endurance; natrual qualities that extend from their wild acnestors. Hippotherapy and thearpeutic horseback riding are names for dfiferent physical, occupational and speehc therapy treatment strategies taht utilize equine movement. In the hippotherayp environment, a therapits uses the horse s movement ot provide carefully graded sensory input, hwereas therapeuitc horseback riding uses specific riding skills.
